The economy and Christmas expectations

“The economy is tough this year, please don’t worry about spending much; I am telling my kids not to expect much from people, it is the thought that counts.”
That email from my sister-in-law reminded me to have that talk with my own kids this year.
How about you? Have you prepared your children yet?
Here is what my kids CAN expect:
1. Joy to our household, vacation has come.
2. Marshmallow roasting on an open stove top, for s’mores.
3. O, a Christmas tree, how lovely with homemade ornaments.
4. Oh what fun, it is to ride in a van full of teens to Christmas caroling.

It’s certainly a tough one and it shows the inflated expectations we as a society have allowed our children to grow up with. May this time rein in our affluenza and STILL be joyful and fun as you say, Katy!
Pete: The tough economy has really done us good. It’s a good thing to “rein in our affluenza.” I like that term.
